HOW LONG DOES A HSE FIRST AID AT WORK CERTIFICATE LAST?

The HSE states that, “Certificates for the purposes of first aid at work last for three years. Before their certificates expire, first-aiders will need to undertake a re-qualification course, to obtain another three-year certificate. Once certificates have expired the first aider is no longer considered to be competent to act as a workplace first aider.”

The FAW Re-qualification course is only 2 days and can be taken, if your initial certificate is soon to expire or has already lapsed.

WHAT IS THE HSE FIRST AID AT WORK RE-QUALIFIER COURSE?

The original HSE First Aid at Work 3-day course Certificate last for three years, this shorter 2-day course allows existing certificate holders to update. HSE guidelines previously stated that the revalidation course should be taken within three months of your original certificate expiry, however they now say, “If the first-aider does not retrain or re-qualify before the expiry date on their current certificate they are no longer considered competent to act as a first-aider in the workplace. They can however requalify at any time after the expiry date by undertaking the two-day requalification course.
