Chieftain Training is a specialist provider of marine courses including STCW, RYA, and tailored training for leisure and commercial seafarers. With centres in Hamble, Southampton, London, and Helensburgh, we deliver high-impact training to yachting, workboat, and water-sports professionals.
Role Overview
As Course Advisor, your primary responsibility is to close sales by responding quickly and professionally to enquiries via email, phone, and in person. You’ll help potential students find the right course and work alongside the Marketing Rep and Principal to fill course dates and maintain our reputation for high-quality and customer service.
This is a customer-facing, results-driven role based in our Hamble training centre. You’ll need strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to juggle priorities in a small business environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to all sales enquiries promptly and professionally, closing sales wherever possible
- Guide students and employers to the most suitable training programmes (full training provided)
- Coordinate with the Principal and Marketing Rep to target course promotions effectively
- Follow up with existing clients interested in additional or repeat training
- Manage course bookings and associated administration
- Attend occasional boat shows, exhibitions, and industry events
- Support the training team and assist with course preparation as required
- Support general office administration
- (Optional) If already a qualified instructor, you may occasionally teach— but sales comes first
Further Responsibilities
Chieftain Training is a small, dynamic company. As such, all team members contribute across various functions based on their strengths and experience. Additional responsibilities will be assigned based on skillset and business need.

$ Even if you have an extensive background in this area it is inevitable that some re training and development will be required as every centre has a different ethos and range of courses.
In the case of a candidate who is already qualified to instruct, there may be opportunity to instruct occasionally, but Sales comes first!

Terms of Employment
- Location: Office-based in Hamble (no remote working as face to face customer interaction is required)
- Hours: Full-time (5 days per week). Occasional weekend work required (TOIL provided) for exhibitions etc.
- Annual Leave: 28 days (including bank holidays). Fixed Christmas shutdown
- Training: Several free internal and product related training courses provided

- Dress Code: Casual

- Salary: £24K-£30K, dependent on experience
