Thank you for choosing Chieftain Training and Southampton Water Activity Centre (SWAC) for your sailing course. We are looking forward to your course and we will do everything we can to make it memorable, interesting, fun and educational. Please take a few minutes to read the pre course information below. WHERE
Sailing and windsurfing courses are run from; Southampton Water Activities Centre (SWAC) and NOT at our other training centre/HQ in Hamble.
WHEN
- 2-day and 5-day courses run 0915-1645
- Evening Courses run 1800-2100
PRE REQUISITES
Some of our courses have prerequisites, these are not optional, they are requirements. If you are unsure what they are please check back against the relevant product page/course description, where you originally placed you booking.

RYA Dinghy, Keelboat or Multihull Level 1, Level 2 and/or Level 3
- RYA Start Sailing Handbook
RYA Seamanship, Spinnakers, Day Sailing, Performance Sailing or Start Racing

RYA Windsurfing (any level)
- RYA Start Windsurfing
CERTIFICATION
Certification for most courses is issued at the discretion of your Instructor and the Principal. The certificate is usually issued at the end of the course before you leave. All of our courses requite 100% attendance.
MEALS
Tea and coffee is included. Meals are not. Please bring a packed lunch each day, (there is a Spar and Tesco Express nearby.
SAFETY
We provide everyone with a buoyancy aid or life jacket, if you prefer to use your own our instructor will check its suitability.
WHAT TO BRING
DINGHY, MULTIHULL & WINDSURF COURSES
- Packed lunch
- Wetsuit and spray top (or hire ours for £5/day) or drysuit
- Wetsuit boots/slippers or trainers that can get wet (no flip flops/crocks, open toed shoes)
- Swimming costume and/or rash vest for under the wetsuit
- Change of clothes
- Towel
- Cap, gloves, sunglasses, suncream as appropriate to the season
- Combination padlock for the lockers
- RYA Logbook (if you would like you course logged)
KEELBOAT COURSES
- Packed lunch (see “Meals” section above)
- Wet weather gear (or hire ours for £5/day)
- Wellies or trainers that can get wet (no flip flops/crocks, open toed shoes)
- Warm clothes
- Change of clothes
- Towel
- Cap, gloves, sunglasses, suncream as appropriate
- Combination padlock for the lockers
- RYA Sailing Logbook (if you would like you course logged)
UNDER 18s
Adult sailing courses course are suitable for anyone sixteen years old or above. In some case we may allow a family member who is slightly younger. to join a family booking Parents or guardians of students aged under eighteen must fill in and sign a medical declaration / consent form for their child prior to the course starting. This is usually done on the first morning.
