RYA COASTAL SKIPPER POWER PRE REQUISITES

COURSE CONTENT

This five-day course is for the more ambitious motor skipper wanting to undertake coastal or offshore passages by day and night. On the course each trainee will skipper passages in a variety of situations and learn more about safety, passage planning, day & nigh pilotage, pilotage, boat handling and emergency situations. The course is taken in tidal waters and you will be equipped to operate in tidal and non tidal waters.

RYA COASTAL SKIPPER POWER COURSE RATIO & VESSEL

The RYA set a maximum ratio of 5 students on a Motor Cruising course to one Instructor (5:1). Some UK centres reduce this to 4:1, but we go further and run 3:1. This means you will spend at least a third of the time on the wheel, with considerable opportunity to navigate and skipper.  You will not sit through long periods of your course simply watching other candidates have a go.

How do we do this? We run a sensible sized (8.5m) motor boat that can be operated safely by just 2 or 3 crew. If you feel you want to train on a larger twin engine motor yacht then we are probably the wrong school for you. Be aware, you are unlikely to be guaranteed such a good Student : Instructor ratio elsewhere! Click here for information about our training vessel(s).
