Cheiftain Training is based in Southampton and offers a range of RYA and MCA marine safety and navigation training courses for sailors, powerboaters, super-yacht crew, divers and seafarers.

Training takes place either at one of our classrooms or we can come to your office or workplace. Our courses range from short one-day training courses to longer eight-day courses. Each course is designed to help you develop skills in specific areas such as VHF Marine Radio, engine maintenance, First Aid, navigation and sea survival. These courses allow you to focus on learning and developing skills while ashore, without the distractions of flapping sails or noisy engines. Many of our students are working towards RYA Yachtmaster Coastal, RYA Yachtmaster Offshore or RYA Yachtmaster Ocean, while others are embarking on MCA STCW Training for Basic Safety, Deck crew positions or to become Officers or Masters.

Our shorebased courses encompass a variety of skill levels. Some of the shorter, one day courses, such as the RYA First Aid and RYA SRC (VHF Radio) are suitable for complete beginners, whilst some of the longer courses, such as RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased and MCA Master 200 are advanced level theoretical courses and therefore have several pre requisites.

Whichever shorebased course you choose, you will find our Instructors and resources second to none. We have equipment to simulate all forms of electronic navigation, marine radio, engine maintenance and First Aid scenarios. We also use a swimming pool for life raft training. Although these are essentially theoretical shorebased courses, they all have many practical, hands-on elements. We are not a RYA practical centre and do not deliver RYA practical training, however we work closely with local partners who do.
