WHAT IS THE AIM OF THE WOLD SAILING OFFSHORE PERSONAL SURVIVAL COURSE?
This course was previousy called the RYA ISAF Offshore Safety Course, however a change of name by the global governing body for sailing led to a change of name for this course. It satisfies the training required by World Sailing Offshore Special Regulations (OSR) 6.01 and covers the topics listed in OSR 6.02 for category 0, 1 & 2 races (and category 3 if racing double handed). This training is a requirement for many offshore races including the RORC Fastnet, RORC Round Britain and Ireland, RORC Trans Atlantic Race, ARC Race, Middle Sea Race, Sydney Hobart Race, RORC Round Ireland Race and the Lonely Rock Race. This course has previoulsy been known as the RYA/ISAF Offshore Course, the ISAF Offshore Safety Course or the ISAF Offshore Race Crew Course. Please note that under the current Offshore Special Regulations, certain crew members are required to undergo separate First Aid training.
HOW LONG IS THE WORLD SAILING OFFSHORE PERSONAL SURVIVAL COURSE?
This is a 2 day course and includes RYA Sea Survival.
WHAT ARE THE WORLD SAILING OFFSHORE SURVIVAL COURSE PRE REQUISITES?
Practical experience of crewing on board sailing yachts
HOW LONG IS THE WORLD SAILING (ISAF) OFFSHORE PERSONAL SURVIVAL TECHNIQUES CERTIFICATE VALID FOR?
The World Sailing Certificate will be valid for five years. If you have previously taken a two-day World Sailing or ISAF Offshore Safety Course then you only require the one-day World Sailing Offshore Personal Survival Refresher.

- Travel between the classroom and the pool. Most students car share. Be prepared to either drive, or contribute towards parking or a taxi as necessary.
HOW LONG IS THE WORLD SAILING OFFSHORE PERSONAL SURVIVAL CERTIFICATE VALID FOR?
5 years, after which you only need attend a one-day World Sailing Refresher Course in order to re-qualify for a further five years.
WHAT RATIO DOES A WORLD SAILING OFFSHORE SURVIVAL COURSE RUN AT?
Class sizes can be as low as 2 and may be upto 16.

Our World Sailing courses are taught by full time yachtsmen who all have a racing pedigree. Our lead Survival Instructor is an Ocean Yachtmaster Instructor who piloted this course back in 2004 and 2005 before it became mandatory, he has competed in countless offshore events in various yachts. He and the crew aboard ‘Chieftain’ won the RORC Round Britain and Ireland Race, Cowes to Cascais, Cervantes Trophy and Myth of Malham Race in class and overall. All of our Offshore Safety Instructors have skippered Trans Atlantic races and several Fastnet Races.
