OFFSHORE PERSONAL SURVIVAL COURSE AIMS:

This course was previousy called the RYA ISAF Offshore Safety Course, however a change of name by the global governing body for sailing led to a change of name for this course. It satisfies the training required by World Sailing Offshore Special Regulations (OSR) 6.01 and covers the topics listed in OSR 6.02 for category 0, 1 & 2 races (and category 3 if racing double handed). This training is a requirement for many offshore races including the RORC Fastnet, RORC Round Britain and Ireland, RORC Trans Atlantic Race, ARC Race, Middle Sea Race, Sydney Hobart Race, RORC Round Ireland Race and the Lonely Rock Race. This course has previoulsy been known as the RYA/ISAF Offshore Course, the ISAF Offshore Safety Course or the ISAF Offshore Race Crew Course. Please note that under the current Offshore Special Regulations, certain crew members are required to undergo separate First Aid training.

HOW LONG IS THE WORLD SAILING OFFSHORE PERSONAL SURVIVAL COURSE?

Day 1 is the RYA Sea Survival Course (booked separately). This page describes day 2 and runs 0930 to 1600.

WHAT ARE THE WORLD SAILING OFFSHORE SURVIVAL DAY 2 COURSE PRE REQUISITES?

You must hold the RYA Sea Survival Certificate taken within the last five years. This one-day course and the Sea Survival day are often held consecutively so that you can complete all of the necessary training in two days (often over a weekend).

The World Sailing Certificate will be valid for five years from the date of your Sea Survival Course (so may have to be back dated) and refers to World Sailing Offshore Special Regulation 6.01 on the certificate. If you have previously taken a two-day ISAF Offshore Safety Course (same course, previous course title) then you only require the one-day World Sailing Offshore Personal Survival Refresher.
