RYA First Aid Training Course

RYA FIRST AID COURSE AIMS:

In a medical emergency, a little First Aid knowledge can save lives, especially when you are in a remote location. This course will provide you with a basic knowledge of First Aid and is aimed at people who will be using small craft at sea. The course is equally suitable for cruisers, racers, dinghy sailors, windsurfers, motor boaters and ocean rowers. The course fulfils the requirements for professional skippers of small craft working up to 60 miles from a safe haven. The RYA First Aid course is recognised by the MCA, the HSE and World Sailing, it satisfies the requirements for RYA Instructors, holders of RYA/MCA Certificates of Competence, offshore race crews (Cat 1, 2) and mots Ocean rowing .

First Aid and resuscitation techniques for yachtsmen and small craft users, including knowledge of the treatment for hypothermia. Our instructors fully appreciate the difference between conventional First Aid and RYA First Aid (where the ambulance may not be just ten minutes away). The certificate is valid for three years and AED practical training is included.

RYA FIRST AID COURSE RATIO:

The RYA recommends their centres provide at least one “resuscitation manikin” for every 4 students and at least 1 “resuscitation mask” per class. While this is a good ratio we believe in giving you more, “hands on” time and we operate with one manikin and one mask for every pair of students (or three if there is an odd number). We have found that working in pairs encourages the most effective learning. This means you spend more time practicing life-saving skills and less time watching others. The RYA “recommends” all their centres have an AED Training unit for this course, we smash this recommendation and insist 3 AED training units are available for for every course. This ensures you learn by hands on experience rather than theory. The class size can be as low as 2 students and can be up-to 12 students.

BOOKING THE RYA FIRST AID COURSE:

If the dates below do not suit you, we can set up a bespoke 1:1, 2:1 or group course at a time that suits you.

Please let us know in advance of the course if you require dual certification with the HSE Emergency First Aid at Work certificate.
