Chieftain Accreditations & Approvals

Chieftain Training is accredited by several external bodies and are audited/inspected by several national organisations.

Royal Yachting Association (RYA)

The RYA is the governing body for power-boating, sailing and PWC in the UK. They manage the most globally recognised training scheme for skippers and crew. We are recognised by the RYA to deliver their full range of shore-based, Powerboat Training and online Interactive courses.

IMO Standards of Training Certification and Watch-keeping (STCW)

The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has 174 members states (countries) and it sets the global standard for STCW training for seafarers. In the UK the Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB) interpret that standard and the Maritime Coastguard Agency  (MCA) carry our the actual approval inspections. We are approved by the MCA to deliver various STCW safety training and we use other approved providers for certain specialist STCW courses.

Association of Marine Electronic
and Radio Colleges (AMERC)

The Maritime Coastguard Agency delegates the administration of Global Maritime Distress & Safety System (GMDSS) courses and exams to AMERC. AMERC is responsible for the approval and ongoing accreditation of GMDSS training Centres. AMERC manage three courses the Long Range Certificate (LRC), the Restricted Operator Certificate (ROC) and the General Operator Certificate (GOC). We are fully accredited to deliver all three and do so regularly

Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH)

Our Food Safety Courses are accredited by the CIEH. This ensures our courses and certificates comply with the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) and are therefore accepted by the MCA for those involved with food preparation on commercial vessels.
