Bespoke own boat tuition allows us to focus on exactly the skills you require and the characteristics of your vessel. We can bespoke the course around you or we can follow an RYA syllabus that leads to certification. Custom Training is popular with new boat owners and with employers.

CAN I TAKE A RYA OR MCA EXAM ON MY OWN BOAT?
Yes, we offer bespoke exam preparation training onboard your boat for the following exams’
- RYA Advanced Powerboat Certificate of Competence
- RYA / MCA Yachtmaster Coastal Power Certificate of Competence
- RYA / MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Power Certificate of Competence
- MCA Boatmaster License (MBL) Tier 1 or Tier 2, Level 1 or 2
Following preparation with our Instructor, an independent RYA or MCA Examiner will join you for the actual exam. The Examiner is employed and insured by the RYA (or MCA for Boatmaster), not by us. We are an Advanced Powerboat Exam Centre and a Yachtmaster Exam Centre so we book the RYA Examiner for you. For BML exams you book the exam yourself.
We are not a RYA Sail Cruising School, however we have several experienced Yachtmaster Sail Instructors and Examiners on the team, so do from time to time conduct own boat Yachtmaster Sail Exam Preparation courses for existing customers.
DO I NEED TO BRING MY BOAT TO SOUTHAMPTON FOR OWN BOAT TUITION?
That is an option but for most courses we can come to you. Our team have taught own boat tuition throughout the UK, France, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Mediterranean Sea, Baltic Sea, Black Sea, Canary Islands, Caribbean, Africa and Asia.
OWN BOAT TUITION RATIO
If we are teaching a bespoke non RYA certified course, the ratio is dictated by the size of your boat. For course quality we will suggest a maximum ratio on a case by case basis.
If we are teaching an RYA course then courses ratios apply;
- Powerboat Courses – Maximum 3 students per boat / Instructor
- Motor Cruising Courses – Maximum 5 students per boat / Instructor
- PWC Courses – Maximum 2 students per ski and 3 skis per Instructor / safety boat
- RYA Radar – Varies from vessel to vessel but likely 3
