The RYA Navigation Instructor course will prepare you to instruct the following RYA Shorebased Navigation courses:

WHAT ARE THE PRE REQUISITES TO BECOME A RYA NAVIGATION INSTRUCTOR?

Minimum age 18
RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased Certificate. If the course was not completed recently it is important that candidates refresh their knowledge of the whole syllabus.
RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence OR RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructor
RYA Teaching in the Classroom (TIC) OR Level 3 Award in Education & Training (or higher level UK Teaching Award or IMO Train the Trainer 6.01
RYA Membership
Enthusiasm
Knowledge well in excess of the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased

Navigation Instructor Course

COURSE CONTENT

The RYA Navigation Instructor course is classroom-based and comprises training and assessment. There will be discussions surrounding the running of RYA navigation courses, the syllabi, equipment required and resources available. Each candidate will deliver a pre prepared session and carry out several chartwork exercises. You will have plenty opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge of IRPCS, chart work, tides, electronic navigation, seamanship, buoyage and passage planning. You will also be teaching some of these subjects as part of your course.
