Day 1
- Role of the Paddlesport Instructor
- Session preparation, kitting up and moving boats/boards
- Briefing and warm-up

- Minimum age 14
- Be able to paddle a craft independently on sheltered water
- Have competed the Paddlesports & Safety Course
- One day First Aid Certificate (within last 3 years)
- Safeguarding Certificate

Yes. The SWAC Paddlesport Instructor qualification is designed to support teaching across a range of paddle craft in sheltered water, including:

It is an excellent foundation if you want to teach introductory sessions and taster activities.
If you plan to specialise later in one discipline or in more advanced environments, this course provides a strong starting point.
What happens after the course?
Once qualified, you may be able to instruct introductory paddlesport sessions on sheltered water, depending on your wider training, deployment setting and any further requirements of your club, centre or national governing body.

You should have baseline personal paddling skills in at least one of the crafts listed before attending. The course focuses heavily on how to teach and rescue, rather than teaching you how to paddle from scratch.
No. The administrative registration fee must be paid directly to British Canoeing when you log your intent to train on their dashboard.
SWAC monitors local conditions constantly. Our sheltered water access allows us to run courses safely in most weather conditions. If severe gales prevent safe operations, we will reschedule your dates immediately.
