Food Safety

Food Safety Courses can be taken face to face or online.

Food Safety in Catering

You can choose between a face to face course in Southampton or online learning. We offer three level of food safety for catering, retail and manufacturing

Food Safety at Sea

The MCA will not accept online courses for seafarers who need to comply with the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), the course must be face to face.

All of our Food Safety Courses cover the guidance provided by the Food Standards Agency. We offer two levels of Food Safety at Sea Courses.

Level 2 Food Safety at Sea (Foundation)- 1 day

The Level 2 Food Safety at Sea classroom course is aimed at anyone who will be handling food on board. In particular it is required by skippers and crew on coded small craft (upto 24m) who handle food as part of their job and are required to meet Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) standards. This course is accredited by the CIEH and accepted by the MCA. Separately from marine specific regulations, this is the minimum qualification required under Food Standards Agency (FSA) regulations for anyone in the UK, handling food as part of a product sold to a customer (i.e. a skippered charter or training course).

Level 3 Food Safety at Sea (Intermediate)- 3 days

The Level 3 Food Safety at Sea classroom course is required by the Ship’s Cook and anyone supervising other food handlers onboard larger vessels which are required to meet Maritime Labour Convention (MLC standards).

Our face to face food safety courses are accredited by the CIEH and accepted by the MCA.
