LEVEL 3 FOOD SAFETY AT SEA COURSE OVERVIEW:
Vessels carrying more than 10 seafarers are obliged by law to have a designated Ship’s Cook and that person is required under the Maritime Labour Convention to hold a Level 3 Certificate in Food Safety.
Our Food Safety at Sea (Level 3) Course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and meets all requirements of the CIEH Intermediate Certificate in Food Safety (Level 3).
This means it is accepted by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) as fulfilling the requirements of Annex 2 of the Merchant Shipping Notice MSN 1846 (M) and satisfies the training requirement for a Ships Cook for Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) compliant vessels. (note the MCA DO NOT accept online Food Safety Courses).
LEVEL 3 FOOD SAFETY AT SEA COURSE AIMS:
For “Ship’s Cooks,” supervising and managing others in a food environment and those wishing to progress from the Level 2 Food Safety at Sea Certificate.
The course covers an in-depth understanding of how to apply and monitor good food safety practice. It also ensures that supervisors know how to implement food safety management procedures across their galley. The course;

- Develops your understanding as a supervisor in a food environment
- Expands knowledge on how to apply safe food controls in a practical environment

- Minimum age 14.
- There is no requirement to already hold the Level 2 certificate
