Super Yacht Stewardess/Steward

Super Yacht Stewardess Training Course

SUPER YACHT STEWARDESS PROGRAMME OVERVIEW:

Super Yacht Stewardess Training will give you the head start you need to get into the Superyacht Industry. Thousands of young adults are attracted by the sunshine, high salaries and global travel of this glamorous industry. If a career in the super-yacht industry appeals to you, there is no question that you need to have the basic training in safety on your CV before anyone will even consider you. Some of this training is legally required to work at sea; some is expected by the industry. Chieftain Training offers a 10 day programme to prepare super-yachts stewardesses and stewards for sea.

WHAT IS A  SUPERYACHT STEWARDESS OR STEWARD?

The “Stews” are often known as the ”Interior Crew.” They manage housekeeping and look after the interior of the yacht and its owner/guests.  On a smaller yacht there are sometime dual roles where a stew doubles as a deckhand for docking. Most yachts will be seeking Stews with a minimum age of 18. The position is usually live aboard.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO TRAIN AS SUPERYACHT STEWARDESS?

The Super Yacht Steward/Stewardess Programme is 12 days, (usually over 2 weeks), but it can be spread over a longer period.

WHAT ARE THE PRE REQUISITES TO THE SUPER YACHT STEWARDESS / STEWARD COURSE?

  • Minimum age 17 (however you will need to be 18+ to be able to apply for work in the Super-yacht industry)
  • ENG1 Medical from an MCA Doctor. This can be completed after your course with us but will be required before a yacht will employ you. If there is any doubt as to your health we recommend you get the ENG1 done before joining us. Be aware this medical will be required every two years.

WHAT IS COVERED ON THE SUPERYACHT STEWARDESS COURSE?

The Fast-Track Superyacht stewardess programme focuses on three separate areas. These include:

Basic Safety Training

STCW Basic Safety Training includes 4 shorter courses, which are all compulsory for safaris internationally. These courses include First Aid, Survival, Fire Fighting and Personal safety on board.

STCW Security Courses

You will complete two short STCW security courses, this ensures your CV is stronger than those who have only taken the basic course.

Food Safety

Under the Maritime Labour Convention anyone involved in the handling or preparation of food on board a super yacht is required to hold an MCA approved Food Safety Certificate. Our Level 2 Food Safety at Sea Course is perfect for this.

Yacht Tender Driving & Seamanship

Although driving tenders and using marine radio is not required of every stewardess it will make you far more employable, if you can turn your hand to other onboard duties from time to time. Consequently our program, includes the RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course and the GMDSS Short Range Certificate.
