Engineering

We run a range of maintenance/engineering courses for yachts, powerboats and workboats from our training workshop. Each course takes 1 or 2 days and contains a mix of short classroom sessions and plenty hands on practical sessions. Most of the courses are aimed at beginners and while it is helpful if you are familiar with boats in general, no previous mechanical or technical knowledge is required. Please do not worry if you do not have a mechanical background, most of the checks and fault rectifications are straight forward and our Instructors will start from the beginning.

Most of these courses were written in house. Our Principal co-wrote the first version of our Outboard Engine Maintenance course in 2006, the 12 Volt course in 2008 and the splicing course in 2012. The Diesel Level 2 course is the new kid on the block having only been launched in 2022. Each of these courses are regularly updated by our Engineering Instructors.

We are unaware of another training centre in the world that has such an impressive training workshop for you to learn in. Our diesel engines include Volvo, Yanmar and Perkins, they range from 2 cylinder to 6 cylinder. Our outboard engines include Yamaha, Honda, Tohatsu and Silva. There are spars you can rivet, winches you can service, reels of rope to splice, Volvo sail drives to service and heaps of 12 and 24 Volt marine electric circuits to work on. The boat parts are supported by extensive tool kits and our courses are truly hands-on.
