RYA Keelboat Instructor Pre Entry

OVERVIEW:

Prior to enrolling on an RYA Keelboat Instructor Course, candidates need to have passed the Pre-Entry Training and Assessment. This is a test of your sailing skills and proves that you are ready to undergo Instructor Training.

KEELBOAT PRE ENTRY COURSE DURATION:

2 Days – mix of Training and Assessment.

RYA KEELBOAT INSTRUCTOR PRE ENTRY PRE REQUISITES:

  • Experienced and Competent Dinghy or Keelboat Sailor
  • Skill above the level of RYA Keelboat Seamanship
  • Minimum age 16 years
  • RYA Membership

COURSE CONTENT:

The Trainer will ask you to demonstrate various skills including:

  • Sailing efficiently on all points of sail
  • Effective tacking and gybing
  • Coming alongside a moored RIB
  • MOB under sail
  • Controlling speed (follow my leader exercise)
  • Close quarter handling (tight circles exercise)

You may also be asked to demonstrate other skills from the National Sailing Scheme, such as:

  • Picking up a mooring buoy under sail
  • Rudderless Sailing
  • Backward sailing
  • Anchoring
  • Reefing Afloat
