The 2 one-day marine diesel maintenance courses go together hand in hand. Think of RYA Diesel Engine Course as Level 1! Our Level 2 day follows directly on. We recommend booking with days back to back but you can take either on their own.

Course topics include:
- Trouble Shooting
- Over heating, blockages and heat exchanger faults
- Fuel system, contamination, leaks and diesel bug
- Air system, filters and blockages
- Starting and stripping issues, batteries and starter motor/solenoid
- Starter motor change
- Injector change
- Sail drive routine maintenance
- Runaway engines
- Propellers
- Morse controls, throttle and gear cables
Students have full access to a range of static marine diesel engines and a large selection of tools in the training room, However much of the day is spent working on a running engine that the Instructor can introduce various faults too.

MARINE DIESEL ENGINE MAINTENANCE LEVEL 2 COURSE RATIOS:
Our maximum class size is 8, however we will run the course with as few as 2 students. The training workshop is equipped with 6 different diesel engines and 2 sail drive legs, so you will get plenty “hands on” time.
DIESEL ENGINE MAINTENANCE LEVEL 2 COURSE EQUIPMENT:
We have equipped our training room with some of the most common marine diesel engines you are likely to come across.
| Brand | Horse Power | Size | Model | Typical Usage | Running or Static |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yanmar | 29 HP | 3 cylinder | 3YM30 | 28-38 foot sailing yachts | Running |
| Yanmar | 36 HP | 3 cylinder | 3JH2 | 30-40 foot sailing yachts | Static |
| Perkins | 135 HP | 6 cylinder | Perkins 635 | Larger workboats & large yachts | Static |
| Perkins | 175 HP | 6 cylinder | Perkins 6354 | Larger workboats & large yachts | Running |
| Perkins | 175 HP | 6 cylinder | Perkins 6354 | Larger workboats & large yachts | Static |
| Volvo Penta | 200 HP | 6 cylinder | TAMD-B | Larger workboats & planing motor yachts | Static |
| Volvo Penta | Pair | Pair | 130S | Pair of Sail drive legs, common on sai yachts | Static |
Most of the engines are static (i.e. non runners), so you can take them apart and investigate their inner workings and serviceable parts. Two engine are plumbed in with water intake and exhaust and are run as part of the trouble shooting exercises. Our training engines are supported by an extensive workshop tool kit. Don’t worry if your engine is not listed above, the skills you learn with us are transferable to any vaguely modern marine diesel engine.
DIESEL ENGINE MAINTENANCE LEVEL 2 BOOKING:
