COURSE CONTENT

The Powerboat Intermediate course follows on nicely from RYA Powerboat Level 2. During this course you will plan and undertake coastal passages. While paper charts are used in the planning stage, the practical navigation is conducted by digital methods. We cover GPS, tide apps, the compass, position fixing, digital weather, navigation and passage planning. You will also develop your boat handling skills, learning how to berth stern first, between piles, Med. style and enter and leave a lock.

Our RYA Powerboat Intermediate course typically crosses the Solent from Southampton, and visits the Isle of Wight and River Beaulieu. You will pilot at high speed around the central Solent hazards (shipping lanes, Bramble Bank and Calshot Spit to name but three). The exact itinerary and route does vary with weather and student background. You will be driving a 6.5-7.5m RIB equipped with modern electronic navigation equipment.
